Ford Expedition
It wasn’t that long ago that big SUV’s where all the rage and it wasn’t just rough and tough men that were driving them. Soccer mom’s everywhere had embraced the trend of buying exceptionally large SUV’s to tote around their children with all their sports gear and friends and it seemed that the automakers had a good thing going. As gas prices started to increase though, these large SUV’s have fallen out of favor with much of that market, but it certainly doesn’t mean that they have gone away totally.
One such SUV that continues to press on despite high fuel prices is the Ford Expedition. This large SUV is in its 12th year of production and is Fords largest SUV currently, measuring over 18 feet long. You may be familiar with the Expedition from seeing them driving down the road or in parking lots where their size certainly makes them stand out. A 2009 Ford Expedition comes with seating for 8 adults, making them popular with large families who need a little more utility than a van offers.
The Ford Expedition is the perfect vehicle to pull the family trailer or boat for weekend trips since it’s suspension comes with an ElectroPneumatic system. This unique technology allows the suspension to sense when a heavy trailer is being pulled and the suspension adjusts accordingly to keep the handling within an acceptable range. Ford Expeditions have become popular among Fire Departments, Police and EMS staff as they offer the ability to travel on very rough terrain, carry a number of passengers as also carry equipment. Towing capacity is almost 10,000 pounds making them perfect for pulling boats, travel trailers and utility trailers. The Ford Expedition is powered by a 5.4L V8 engine with 300hp and includes a 6 speed transmission, which gives it plenty of power for pulling and passing as well as power for off-road adventures.
Even though the Ford Expedition is a great SUV that can handle rough terrain and utility, it’s still very passenger friendly with many unique options that make it a great vehicle to spend time in. A new entertainment system called Ford Sync has been added which is essentially a navigation and entertainment system rolled into one. It features a 10gb hard drive, similar to your MP3 player so you can store songs right in the vehicle. You can sync it to you BlueTooth cellphone to communicate through the sound system. There’s even a system called Sirius Travel Link that brings drivers and passengers information on current weather conditions, traffic, news and of course route information.
Although the shift has been to smaller vehicles that offer more fuel efficiency, that’s no reason to completely dismiss the Ford Expedition. For anyone with a large family or that wants both utility and functionality, the Ford Expedition is a great vehicle. The size allows it to carry plenty of luggage or gear and pull a trailer, making it the perfect vehicle for family vacations and weekends at the cottage.
